WhatsApp to Discontinue Support for Older Android and iOS Devices Starting 2025

Starting January 1, 2025, devices running Android KitKat or earlier versions will no longer be able to access the app. Similarly, iPhones operating on iOS versions older than 15.1 will lose compatibility from May 5, 2025.

Users of these devices are encouraged to upgrade to newer models or update their operating systems (if possible) to continue accessing WhatsApp services.

Impact on iOS Devices

Starting May 5, 2025, WhatsApp will also cease support for devices running iOS versions earlier than 15.1. This includes iPhone models such as:

• iPhone 5s
• iPhone 6
• iPhone 6 Plus

These devices, which are limited to iOS 12.5.7, represent a small segment of WhatsApp’s user base. However, users with newer iPhones still running older software are advised to update to iOS 15.1 or higher to maintain uninterrupted service.
